The Journey and the Goal

To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.
-        Ralph Waldo Emerson

In life we tend to focus on the destination when, in fact, it is the journey from which we get our deepest value and happiness. Even if we don’t know it.

When we learn to find purpose and fulfillment in the journey and the process, that’s some enlightened-ass living.

In games is it not the act of play as opposed to the victory conditions that give us the vast majority of joy and entertainment? I say to you, let the victory conditions be your rudder and the play be where you get your meaning.

For us, Dunce Cap Games is the beginning of such a journey.

Will we end up exactly where we want to be? Absolutely not. And as we progress we are dam well going to have a lot of fun. And if you are reading this you are welcome to hitch a line and join up with us. We would love to have your company!

So in what direction is our rudder pointing us at Dunce Cap Games?

A meta-goal is to promote more in-the-flesh board and card gaming in the world.  It is a tragedy that as we age we play less. Engaging in the act of play is incredibly good for you and when you combine that with the physical presence and face-to-face engagement of friends and family, it becomes good for us. At Dunce Cap Games we want you to increase this in your life.

A large goal at DCG is to build a company that designs, develops and publishes new board and card games. We have designs and ideas; perhaps you do as well? Taking these concepts and molding them into reality and then getting them into the world is a cornerstone of what we are doing.

Another goal of DCG is to create enough cash flow to allow us to work on the business full time (and maybe even hire employees someday). Not everyone gets to do what they love as their means of income and we both think that would just be fantastic.

We also want to create a community gaming space and physical store. Picture a wine tasting room mixed with a brewery mixed with a sports bar/speak easy mixed with a community space where people would gather to play board games. We are going to have some seriously kick-ass food too.

We also want to host gaming events in the Puget Sound. Join our newsletter or club to make sure you are on that list!

Our most immediate goal is to use money generated from merchandise, memberships, vintage board games and our Ebay and Amazon stores to fund the print runs and marketing efforts of our game designs.

So there are a few of our goals here at DCG. We will be using them as a rudder to influence our decision making and investments. And they very well might change. And they might not. We are in it for the journey and no matter what happens we will be learning and ton and having massive amounts of fun in the process.

Onward!
